| The Pluses and Minuses of Buying Online |
|
|
To be honest, I bought all of my presents online during the last
holiday season. I just didn't have the energy to physically go to the
stores and malls. It's so much easier to sit in front of the computer
and shop in my pajamas.
Buying online for the holidays also gives the
benefit of being able to shop at any hour of the day. I was also able
to find a few great deals and got some great presents for my family and
friends. I was able to buy personal gifts for them, even if it wasn't
as personal as actually fighting the crowds and standing in line for
hours.
Since buying online can be bit of a gamble, it pays to be cautious. Some sites may not really be as safe as they claim to be. There is also the uncertainty of not knowing who is gaining access to all of your personal information.
I would never purchase anything from a site that just do not seem reputable. I steer away from small sites that I am not familiar with.
Now, I’m not saying that buying online from those unfamiliar and smaller sites is not a wise idea. Buying from obscure small sites is just something that I am not completely comfortable with. I did find a great gift idea on a small site and tried to check out the company.
However, it turned out that that company did not have a good reputation with the Better Business Bureau, so I chose to not support that particular retail site. I want to be sure that I am going to get what I'm paying for if I'm buying online.
I am really amazed at how much shopping could be done over the World-Wide-Web. It is even possible to buy a house or a car online! There are also sites that have special offers for costumers who are buying online instead of purchasing merchandise in the actual store.
I have to admit that I took advantage of some of those special offers. However, I did have the items shipped to the gift recipients because I wanted to be able to wrap the presents and hand them out personally.
In general, buying online has been a positive experience. I did not experience getting incorrect bills or have problems with anyone swiping my personal information. Some retail stores in the malls have suffered since it became possible to buy online.
Unfortunately for them, online shopping isn't a trend that is going away in the near future. Of course, some people will refuse to do any form of online shopping because of the security issues.
